sQuareOne art auction

August 11, 2008 · 2 Comments

sQuareOne is a Vibewire-funded not-for-profit youth organisation, who sometimes need a little money to get by. Because of this, they’ll be running their second annual art auction on Saturday, September 13th 2008 at Mori Gallery, Sydney, selling works by local artists.

All works will be exhibited and auctioned on the night, with entertainment, drinks and nibblies. There will also be an exhibition by Matthew Rochford running at the same time.

They’re currently looking for works to be submitted for auction, with 80% of profits will go to support sQuareOne, and artists retaining 20% of sales. If you’d like to donate some work, please email Natalie by August 20, 2008 with a description of your work (and a photo if possible), including title, dimensions and media.

sQuareOne

sQuareOne is a new Vibewire initiative run out of Ultimo, Sydney. It’s an art gallery, shop, meeting and office space, and probably doesn’t make sense unless you check out the place itself. They’re looking for talented young things to work as volunteers and interns in their office, specifically:

Even though these sorts of roles don’t pay the bills, they are great for your cv and you’ll be giving back to the community. Those are the warm and fuzzies that you can’t buy. Apply today!

Zine Scene

June 4, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Zines

Since Aussie Arts was recieving alot of search hits for zines, I thought I’d celebrate the MCA Zine Fair with an entry about the Zine Scene in Australia. If you are unaware of what exactly a zine entails, I suggest you get the full lowdown at Book of Zines.

The Australian zine scene (sorry, I can’t stop saying it) is a funny thing. It’s like Sydney weather – dry one day, flooding rain the next. The entire structure of the scene is run on people’s spare time and money, meaning that previous information about zine stockists, distros and groups quickly becomes outdated. I’m hoping to maintain this entry as a current and relevant list of zine contacts, which I’ll update as information comes to hand. If you are aware of anything that’s incorrect or missing, please send it through to karen.at.karenisafox.com and I’ll make the necessary changes.
